Hi All! I trust that everyone had a great holiday and New Year! Did anyone get any new outfits or goodies? Do tell! I would like to thank those in attendance at the January meeting in which we had a lot of good food and good times. Alexis, that really was some great soup that you made! Erin those cookies were great! And to anybody else who brought stuff, Thank you! It was appreciated!
Thanks go to Erin and Christine for keeping the conversation alive during dinner! You two were a treat! I confess to being a person who could take or leave Monty Python, but your voices and knowledge of Python made me reconsider because I got it! I saw what was so funny!
This article is done on the fly, and I don't have my topics sheet in front of me and frankly I am a bit too lazy to get up and get it!_LOL! So bear with me ladies.
First off all, it has been a pleasure meeting a lot of you, it was YOU that helped make ROSE a good group! We board members can only do so much, without the members we would be nothing and we would have already degenerated into a catfight!-LOL! Just kidding ladies! I love each and every one of the board members and if you don't know that then you do now! Ellen, Cathy, Michelle, my life is richer because of you! You are appreciated!
We have a wonderful speaker lined up for the February meeting, her name is Lorraine Bock and she will be speaking about hormones, a topic that really does need to be discussed and I don't just mean within ROSE either. I am going to be talking with an individual about doing her makeup lesson, she is quite good and she presented a program at one of our meetings in 2007, her name is Roxie Prima Donna aka Wayne and she is awesome in regards to makeup! She knows her stuff. Trust me, we all could use a little help now and then.
If anyone has any ideas whether they are for the newsletter, or the group, then please speak up and let your voice be heard! Alexis, I know you mentioned putting together a column that had to do with food and recipes, great idea!
Ta Ta ladies, see you at the meeting!

Hi Everybody,
A good friend called the other day; I will call her “Sally,” as the names have been changed to protect the innocent. She told me she had just returned home and had been fired in a small town in Illinois about 800 miles away. Sally was a TG truck driver for “XYZ Company” for at least 5 years and is in transition on the job. She had allegedly made a U turn in the truck someone complained and she was fired on the spot. The company said they would pay for a bus home but that wouldn’t take care of all the things she had carried in the truck. Sally rented a car and drove back to Lancaster County somewhat dejected. Her dispatcher had given the wrong directions to her destination and it was necessary to turn around, which she did safely, but apparently this was a violation. I helped Sally by driving her the next day to Carlisle to the truck terminal to pick up her car. I have talked with other truck drivers and was told that normally a U turn would not be grounds for dismissal unless it resulted in a fine by police or caused an accident. Is this yet another case of discrimination because Sally is transgendered and a pre op TS?
I know of a number of trans people who have lost their jobs for one reason or another but the underlying cause seems to be because of their TG status and gender expression. Hopefully equal rights job discrimination law will be passed to include transgender and gender identity in Pennsylvania. There is at least one bill to accomplish this in the State House of Representatives at this time if it doesn’t get bogged down with a lot of amendments.
This coming Friday, February 8, 2008 I will be participating in a panel discussion at York College. We have been invited to be guest speakers for a gender class. There will be four of us. Gender queer, MtF, FtM, and I am the token CD. We will each have about 10 minutes to talk and then answer questions regarding the TG community. I am looking forward to this experience and will give you a report at the meeting.
March 15 will be the Spring Fling at Bubes Brewery in Mt Joy. The party will be located in the Alois ballroom in the Victorian Central Hotel. This is really a neat place with several restaurants and bars and an underground catacombs. We will have private facilities including restrooms, dressing area, bar, and dining room. Plans are in the making for a sumptuous feast, musical entertainment (possibly karaoke) will be provided for your pleasure and dancing and there will also be a silent auction. If enough people are interested, a ghost tour may be available. See me for more information and to obtain tickets.
See you at the meeting,
Ellen Davidson
