New Renaissance LSV Website
There will be a meeting of Renaissance LSV on Saturday, 8:00 PM October 7, 2006 at the MCC Church on Jefferson St in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Everybody is encouraged to wear a Halloween costume for the meeting.
News from the Directors Chair
At the close of Renaissance Lower Susquehanna Valley’s last meeting on September 2nd, our director Angela Garner tearfully and lovingly bid us her farewell. She then passed the management of our group on to me, your Secretary, as provided for in the organizations by laws…within a few hours she was on the highway, bound for her new home in Austin, Texas.
I am honored to have the privilege of leading our unique and diverse group for the next two months, until a new board is elected. I’ll do my best to do well by all of us, and I need help from you members to accomplish that. At this point, I am standing alone, acting as Treasurer, Secretary, and Director. That’s not only not allowed in the bylaws…it’s too much for me to handle! Help! Please: if you feel you are ready to do service for your community- the very community that helped you when you so needed to feel that you were not alone- volunteer. I have approached a couple of you personally, asking you to step forward, and I hope you’ll be able to. Most of us have demanding and full lives with little time for extra burden- but the effort required to serve Renaissance LSV is not overwhelming. As we near a new election, realize that we need positions filled for the next year, too. And- please take a moment to thank those that are current board members that spend their precious time for our benefit.
Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending my sixth Southern Comfort Conference (http://www.sccatl.org/) in Atlanta, GA- the largest Transgender conference in the world. Brie (sorry, Brie/Bree…I don’t know if your name is spelled like my fav cheese or like the redhead on Desperate Housewives!), one of our newest members, and a board member of IFGE (http://www.ifge.org/) was also an attendee. Though quaking with stage fright on my introductory presentation, I co-paneled a seminar Saturday afternoon, which was well attended and received gracious reviews.
Two nights ago I caught up with LSVRen board members Ellen, Sara and Rachel at the new alternative Club XS’s first Saturday night. What a welcome and fun place! It was packed with happy people from every persuasion….if that night was a prediction of the future THAT is THE club to be at in our metro area.
While there Rachel suggested that we make the coming meeting- this Saturday, October 7 at 8:00 PM- a costume event. Yes!! There will be prizes….how many and for what category to be determined. Let’s lighten up, Ladies & Gentlemen (and all In-Betweeners)! Wear something out of the ordinary...be daring...or fun! I’ll see you there-
Warmly,
Jeanine Russel

Summer is over and the days will be getting shorter with the end of Daylight Savings Time. For those of you willing to venture out of your home dressed in your female finery, this will make it easier to get out without being observed. Why is this so important to us? Sometimes when you want to go out and express your femininity, the hardest thing to do is just get out the door.
There are some places that welcome us to the nightlife. Most gay bars and many restaurants will not object to our patronage.
At the end of September a year ago we lost the Velvet Rope in York. They were just about to celebrate their 5-year anniversary when the owner decided it was not financially feasible to continue operation.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to help open club XS in York, which is in the same location as the old Velvet Rope. The place was packed: the music was kicking and the people are very friendly. The music, lighting, and sound system are great. There are three bars, two of which are separated from the dance floor so you can actually carry on a conversation without shouting. There are also separate semi-private rooms with bar and food service and also there is a separate, reasonably quiet area to play pool. The club is big and promises something for everyone. They plan to have theme parties including a big Halloween Party on October 28th. They will also have drag shows and amateur nights, Karaoke and other events. We wish Club XS well and I hope the LGBTQ community will support it.
Halloween is coming up at the end of this month. Most bars and clubs have public Halloween costume parties. This is an excellent opportunity for the closet CD who wants to go out dressed as his alter ego for the first time. In keeping with the spirit of the season, no one questions when you buy feminine things for your self, including wigs and makeup.
This is a continuation of previous suggestions.

A Message from your Web Mistress

Hello Everyone,
I'd like to talk about Renaissance LSV's New Mailing list.
The link to send mail out is below.
This new mailing list was created to provide a communications network system for the local TG Community as well as other TG Communities who would like to be a part of it. Our new Community network mailing list can provide many uses to the community(s) and was also established so there is a link to our support group for those who are not members of Renaissance LSV who are seeking help and education with Transgenderism in all aspects. In past times there has been no means of communication between our community members except for individual e-mails to each other and then just forwarding things to each others mailing list when felt appropriate. There was no communications available with the Renaissance LSV Organization at all outside the organizational membership. With this new mailing list we can send information, news, support and a list of many other things to a vast number of community members at the same time and increase our communications with each other as well as support. It also gives Renaissance LSV a way to communicate with the community to provide a network of information and support to a vast number and as a means for the community to contact us.
For instance if your facing problems with your gender preference and are having a hard time dealing with it and don't know which way to turn or who to talk to you could send a e-mail to the mailing list. Explain your problem and get help from people in the community who have more then likely experienced a similar problem and can offer ways to help. Experience can be a very valuable tool to many seeking information and help. If you have news that would be of interest to the community you could forward e-mail to the mailing list and get it out to a vast number in the community who would love to be kept updated and informed on happenings in the community. Create forums of interesting topics for discussion within the community. Keep each other updated on upcoming events in the community especially for those who might want to attend them or be a part of them. Perhaps you might have some things that do not fit you any more and want to make room in your closet for other things or just things you have no use for any longer. You could post a list to the mailing list and offer those things to a vast number of people who might be interested in purchasing them from you or you can just give them away to first come first serve. If you have a paypal account you could use that for a method of reliable payment for the things you might sell. The list of uses this community information network mailing list will provide just goes on, these are just a few of the uses it will provide to the community. This mailing list was created for all to use in the community as an informational and support network communications system.
The one thing this mailing list is not is a dating service. If anyone is caught abusing this mailing list in any way they will be removed and unable to receive or send e-mails. Sending annoying e-mails will just create problems, annoy the members of the mailing list and cause the list problems with Spam filters. If this mailing list is used the right way it can become a very valuable tool within the community.
If you are not a member of our new community information network mailing list and would like to become a member or would want more information about it please contact us. You can go to our Web site, www.RenaissanceLSV.com
Please note: We keep all e-mail addresses private and they are not available to anyone except for the President / Director of Renaissance LSV and the Web Mistress. Your e-mail address is not given to anyone or used in any way shape or form other then for sending messages out and receiving them. When a message is sent to the mailing list by anyone it goes out to a group link and no e-mail addresses are seen. Our Organizations By Laws strictly state that all TG community members must be treated with strict confidence and their privacy maintained at all times. We do not give out names or any other information about Renaissance LSV members or members of the TG Community. Our group policies are very strict and we live by them.
Best Wishes,
Michelle Lynn GreyFeahter

From a local sister in Lancaster:
Thought I'd send this up the ladder to you. My brother's ex sent this out and I thought I'd share it.
I saw this on a blog I read ..............................
My wife, a registered nurse in NJ, committed the unforgivable sin of sending in her license renewal payment late. This caused a whole raft of issues for her, including a mass of new paperwork that
needs to be completed.
Among the many things she is now required to present to the state is a set of fingerprints, complete with the requisite background check.
The weird thing is that on the fingerprint application, she was asked her gender.
The choices: 1) Male 2) Female 3) Both…………………………….Only in N.J.
