There will be a meeting of Renaissance LSV on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the MCC Church on Jefferson St in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Doors open at 8:00 PM and the  meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM.

News from the Directors Chair:

From your Managing Director:

Hello From the Chair, I hope you all had a good Easter. It was very nice for me I got some time off which I needed very much.  It had been a long time.

Well, as you know I had gone to Elizabethtown College had a very good time I got a chance to teach the class on Transgender issues.  Also with me were Eta and Rachel the class was held for 1hr 15mins long it was just great after it was done we had some talking about whatever came too mind.

As for the topic that came up on the message board about a picnic as we have had before in July we will have an indoor cook out at MCC church.  As in the past we have had a low turn out and very little membership, Rachel and myself put it on last year and it went very nicely.  If the membership wishes to change such it can be brought up at the meeting for change.

Now in as much as I don't wish to say this.  It must be said, if I can make it to the Nov elections I will be a monitor for the up coming officers. But, I will not be running myself.  I feel it will be my time to move along and find my way through life. I will also be changing my job to fit my life style with in the next few weeks.  IM going for interviews as we speak.

One last thing, I will be working hard to make my last meetings but if I don't, Jeanine will fill in my spot till I get back.  That doesn't mean that I will not take Questions and I will not Stop running the show.  My job has made it hard on me to get to my meetings.  They will not budge.

God's Speed as Kristin will be away from us for her GRS.  Come back Girl (for real).

Respectfully,
Angela K. Garner
Managing Director LSV

Rachel’s HQ

For May’s meeting, it was supposed to be for discussion of the bi-laws, which seem to cause a stir when it is mentioned. Angela will not be able to attend this meeting, therefore this discussion will have to be pushed off to another time. So this meeting, we will have our groups so we can all talk and get info or just to socialize. We also need to find out what we want to do for the Pride festival and our participation in the parade!
June’s meeting, I’m going to try to bring in counseling for anyone interested in starting or changing therapist. I won’t be able to attend June’s meeting so I hope you’ll treat the guest well.

July’s meeting will be our “Cook-In”. We will have some George Foreman’s grilling some hot dogs and burgers. We had it last year and people seemed to enjoy it. So come enjoy a nice time and the food.

On a personal note : I finally came out at work. I was really scared about not knowing if I would still have a job afterwards, but things went better than expected. I first sat down with my boss and explained everything to him. He wasn’t as shocked as I thought he would be, because of my gradual changes, he already assumed something was going on. The following week I went to my HR director and discussed my situation. She was very pleasant and very open to what I had to say. Even though this was the first time she dealt with a Transgender woman, she was willing to learn. Couple weeks later she brought in another HR director from another local company, which had already dealt with the issues and had a great set-up for procedures and new harassment policies. I went over all the information with her and have agreed to Sept 1st, 2006 to be my transition date at the work place. I am very excited that this was another big step accomplished with great success.

One major concern is TS sometimes don’t get the medical care they need. Check out this article:

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

My partner Ann and I are engaged to be married April 13th 2007.
Hugs,
Rachel

Ellen’s Corner

May is a transitional month, still cold at night but sometimes very warm during the days; definitely the time to get outside and enjoy the weather.  This spring or summer would be a great time to have a picnic for our group and possibly include our families.  Would anyone be interested in going out as a group for dinner before our meetings?
There are new places to go out all the time.  I haven’t been to the Rainbow Room at the Railroad House in Marietta yet but it is becoming a popular place to go and they are beginning to advertise in the Alternative Central newspaper for the LGBT community.  Also according to Kristen, Fisher’s Restaurant and Lounge in downtown York is friendly and has a great food and wine/beer/martini list.  Check them out on Thursday nights for the Tim Warfield band. Kristen also told me the former Velvet Rope in York is slated to reopen in early July as Club XS, which will have a high energy gay dance venue, state of the art lighting and sound system and top DJs.

The Pride Fest is coming up at the end of July as well as the first Gay Pride Parade on Front Street.  We need to discuss what we are going to do at the Pride Fest.  I plan to participate in the parade and hope we can put together a float or have some vehicle to represent Renaissance LSV.  How about it girls; would you like to ride in a convertible?  Maybe I will have my motorcycle running by then and can ride it in the parade.

The National Council for Transgender Equality has suggested 52 things you can do for Transgender Equality.  I will state some more of them here and add more in future issues of this newsletter.

13. Support the Day of Silence….already passed on April 26
14. Preach or speak at a local community of faith i.e. a church, synagogue, or mosque.
15. Adopt a highway
16. Hold a Trans Unity event; empower and celebrate the community
17. Participate in GLBT Pride and march in your local Pride Parade.
18. Educate a local homeless shelter about how to be trans-inclusive.

Here is the website for the suggestions to date with explanations for each item:  http://www.nctequality.org/52things.asp

We wish Kristen well as she undergoes the most crucial stage of her transition, SRS.  Hope to see you soon and healthy, Kristen.

See you at the meeting,
Ellen Davidson
