A Letter From Your Managing Director:
Well, its 2006 and it is hard to believe that we just cornered with 2000 not to long ago. Much has happened during that time; some happy and some sad. For the most part it’s been good.
I hope that you all had a very nice Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas. I also hope that 2006 will bring you much love and happiness as it will bring my family and me.
When we have our first meeting of the year we will have a schedule of events for the year and much work to do to bring your organization up to date. Starting with the BI-Laws in which this is the groundwork to protect the members. Michelle and I helped each other with the web site in which incorporated 2003, 2004, 2005. Also it has given us advance usage in the way we can talk with each other more than ever before. The information that is given on site can teach the simple person what he or she needs to make his or her own chooses. Since the web has been up and running ive had at least five different people contact me in reference to information about the group.
Now going back to Dec 2005. We had a great party we had about 20 people there and the place was very big and the beds were comfy and a very nice place to get away from life for a day. Try coming next year!!!!!!!
Well For now Happy New Year to all, God Bless, See ya at the meeting on the 7th of January 2006.
Angela K. Garner,
Managing Director

ELLEN’S CORNER
Hi Everybody, HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope you all had a glorious holiday season with your loved ones and family; I know I did.
Thanks to everyone who helped make our Christmas Party at Canna Country Inn a success. Check out the pictures on our website and I hope more can attend the party next December. Several of us went to KClinger’s Publick House again and educated some of the people that were there. We received a lot of positive comments and many people had questions regarding the transgender community.
Marie and I went to a t-girl’s Christmas party in Frederick Maryland and had a great time. There were about 25 people there. The party, sponsored by Katrina and Michelle was held at a private residence. Later that night some of us went to the Deer Park Lodge near Hagerstown Maryland and found it to be very nice and accepting.
Lets try to bring back some of the fun in our group. We could plan to get together for a girls night out at least once a month outside of our regular meeting. The more we get out and are seen and accepted by the public the easier it is for those CDs who are going out for the first time
It seems to be more acceptable to crossdress when going out in public. The transgendered theme has been getting more attention recently in the media and the movies. Dressing in a skirt has also become more common for some who may not be transgendered.

JACKSON, Mo. (Dec. 22) - Nathan Warmack wanted to honor his heritage by wearing a Scottish kilt to his high school dance. Then a principal told him to change into a pair of pants. Warmack, a defensive lineman on the football team, lives in Jackson, a growing, largely middle-class city of about 14,000 people about 110 miles from St. Louis
What began with a few yards of tartan has sparked an international debate about freedom, symbols and cultural dress. More than 1,600 people have signed an Internet petition seeking an apology for the high school senior. Scots in the United States are assembling a traditional ensemble they hope the student will wear to the prom, and his family is trying to change the school's dress code policy. Most schools impose a dress code to prevent wearing attire to school that is deemed inappropriate or distracting.
Other schools around the country also have wrestled with the issue. A principal in Victoria, Texas, ordered two boys into "more appropriate" attire when they wore kilts to school in 1992, saying: "I know kilts. Those weren't kilts and the boys aren't Scots."
In 1993, a student in Fayette County, Ga., was not allowed to enter his prom at McIntosh High School because he showed up in a kilt and refused to change clothes.
And while they weren't trying to dress in kilts, a few boys were allowed to wear skirts to class at Franklin Community High School in Indiana in 1997, when a superintendent said different people express themselves in different ways.
I recently read An interesting story on the website Fictionmania. The story was titled “Dress Codes” and concerned a man who went to work in a woman’s clothing store. The company had a dress code for all of its employees, which stated they must dress in clothing from the store’s stock. After much trepidation, he agreed to comply and became a valued salesperson after his transformation. So much for fiction!
We should welcome the opportunity to dress as we want and express our femininity. Through the efforts of LGBT organizations like ours, and others we can change the dress codes and maybe someday wear that pretty dress to work.
See you at the meeting,
Ellen
Cathy’s Chatter January 2006
By Cathy Dewalt
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Forget the New Year resolution, you won’t keep it anyway. I’ll avoid the cliché’s about too much food and goodies over Christmas. You don’t need to hear them anymore than I do. The Ren. Christmas Party went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time. The B&B we had it had a neat atmosphere and the food was excellent. My compliments to all who contributed. Everything was fantastic.
In October I wrote a column on different scenarios where we might have to get involved with law enforcement authorities. I also stated that there would be a forthcoming column on one aspect of what to do if harassed. This is that column. The following paragraphs were inspired by the humorist, Dave Barry. A number of years ago he wrote a column that mentioned briefly what I am going to elaborate. The column appeared in Harrisburg’s, Sunday Patriot News.
Gun control. Many people are talking about this issue nowadays. Some are for it and some are against it. I myself am for crime control. I wonder if anyone has seriously looked at the two words, gun control. I also wonder if a majority of those for and against know what these words mean. I am going to tell you. These words mean simply, those who have the guns, are in control. Therefore, I have a proposal. Every American, male and female, over the age of 18, should be required to have a handgun. Stick with me, I am going somewhere with this. The citizens would be allowed to purchase any kind of handgun they wished. Us ladies would probably go for something small to carry in our handbags, but I envision guys walking around like cowboys in the old west, with a holster and gun on their hip. All these guns would be registered of course and everyone would be required to purchase a license. The license would be only for the gun you are carrying and no other. If you wish to own multiple guns, you would need other licenses. On the license, it would show that the owner has passed a safety course and is qualified to handle and fire the weapon in their possession. Let us review, everyone over the age of eighteen will own a handgun for which they will be qualified to handle. Proper authorities will know of the existence of this gun and who owns it.
The whole country is now armed. Here is how we, the citizens can control crime. As a bonus, this should make the citizens start being extra nice to everyone else. Every gun-carrying adult would be allowed to shoot and kill one person in his or her lifetime, with few strings attached. There would be no jail time, no fines or penalties. The police of course would do an investigation to make sure this is your first time. No doubt, there would be some papers to fill out. No press would be permitted to publish the shooter’s name. Anonymity is of utmost importance. The reason is this: When a criminal is making plans to rob you, or in our case, when some bigot is considering harassing us, he will have two things to think about. The first is, how easily will this person get their gun out if I try this. The second thing they will need to consider is, has this person had his free kill? Would a purse snatcher be so quick to run with my purse if he knew that several individuals could take him down from across the street before he ran a dozen steps? How about the clown throwing demeaning remarks my way. I could take care of him before he finished his first bigoted remark
.
As I previously stated, this mentality would make people be more considerate of one another. We can all agree there are crazy people in this world. Some would kill over the most mundane things if they could. Would the neighbor who likes to slap his girlfriend around do so, if I happened to be close by? Remember that he would not know if I used my free shot. The waitress or waiter who treated you like crap, might they wonder the same thing. How about the line jumper at the bank? So dear reader, you see where I am going. Would it not be a great if everyone started being extra nice to one another?
This is my proposal. Maybe if we all write our congresspersons, we could get this passed into law and then get busy making the country a much nicer place to live and work! As always, just my thoughts.
Cathy
